A game of momentum but Hawks hold on

WANGARATTA Rovers' senior footballers have kept their top three dreams alive in emphatic fashion with a thrilling one point win over Albury on Saturday.

A seven goal final term set up a thrilling finish but ultimately it was the Hawks who would hold on in the 14.9 (93) to 13.14 (92) win at WJ Findlay Oval.

The Tigers made things difficult for the home team in the dying minutes as they peppered their inside 50, but Hawks star Sam Murray was huge, taking multiple intercept marks.

Albury's Will Blomeley kicked a snap at goal from 20 metres out in the final two minutes but missed to hand the Hawks a crucial win.

"I'll be honest, halfway through the last quarter it wasn't looking great for us," captain Sam Carpenter admitted.

"In the first 15 minutes of the quarter, the ball was coming into our defensive 50 really hot, they were hitting players lace out, it was really hard to defend, but once we kicked a goal, the feel of the game changed a lot, we forced Albury to kick long into our forward line and we...
