Keen departs Norm Minns Oval

WANGARATTA A grade netball coach Kellie Keen has departed Norm Minns Oval.

Keen will return to Benalla in the Goulburn Valley League, taking up a role as the club's A and B grade coach.

In her five years with the Magpies, the playing coach helped lead the club to their first A–grade flag in 2018, before going back–to–back in 2019.

Wangaratta president Ellyn O'Brien said Keen will leave a big hole at Wangaratta.

"We've been advertising for a coach for a little bit now so we were aware she wouldn't be coaching in 2022," O'Brien said.

"She's extremely experienced and the girls respect her so she's going to leave a big hole at the club.

"I've had a few conversations with the girls and they all got together and brainstormed a few suitable names for the job.

"If anyone's interested in the job give the club a call."

Keen lead the 'Pies to a third place finish in 2021 as they chased down an interrupted three–peat before this year's season was cancelled.

Previously, Keen has already been named Benalla's best and fairest on eight occasions, as well as winning seven premierships with Benalla.

On top of that, she has played over 400 games for the club in one of the best CVs the GVL has ever seen.

O'Brien believes a new face will be very beneficial for the Magpies.

"It'll be great to get a new, fresh face into the club who has new ideas," she said.

"As Kellie leaves the door opens for someone else which is really exciting."

Meanwhile, Rachelle Petts will take on the role as Wangaratta's under 17s coach.

Petts and Lou Byrne will run skills sessions for the Magpies' u15 and u17 sides in November as pre–season begins.

Wangaratta will hold their 2021 presentation night on November 13 with 150 double vaccinated people permitted to attend.
