WANGARATTA council has sent out a reminder to motorists that the city’s CBD has switched to app-only paid parking.
Changes will be visible in the coming weeks, including the removal of parking meters and new signage across the CBD.
To ease the transition, the Rural City of Wangaratta has created a webpage with detailed instructions on using the EasyPark app.
EasyPark representatives will be available at the community kiosk on Reid Street on Thursday, 29 May and Friday, 30 May from 10am to 2pm.
They will also be at the kiosk on selected days over the next month to provide assistance.
Council rangers will also be on hand to offer support with downloading and using the app, which is usable in numerous locations across Australia.
Paid parking operates Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm and parking is free on weekends.
All CBD parking must be paid for via the EasyPark app.
However, for those unable to access the app, monthly or yearly CBD parking vouchers, linked to a single vehicle registration, are available from council’s planning and building counter.
These vouchers apply to timed CBD parking areas, but not the co-store carpark.
While EasyPark can be used in the Co-Store carpark, the vouchers cannot, as it's operated independently from council-managed parking.
"Residents, workers, and visitors are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the EasyPark system or to purchase a CBD Parking voucher to avoid fines," Stephen Swart, director sustainability & culture, said.
"There are a variety of paid and free parking options throughout the CBD precinct from one hour to all day parking,"
Under the changes all 72 dysfunctional parking meters will be removed and motorists will have to use the EasyPark App for all paid parking spaces, a new system that will save council $221,000 over eight years.
