Textiles appreciated by all

THE Wangaratta Art Gallery Contemporary Textile Award continued to impress this year with 300 works competing for the top prize of $10,000 earlier this month.

The exhibition, which remains open to the public until August 15, saw artist Gillian Bencke's work 'Cope' take out the top spot and artist Evangeline Cachinero snap up the highly commended Ruth Amery Award with a prize of $2500.

The commemorative award remembers the late Rural City of Wangaratta councillor and her passion for the arts.

National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) curator of Indigenous art Hannah Presley was the judge for this year, full story in the Monday, June 21 edition of the Wangaratta Chronicle.

The gallery is open from 10am to 4pm, Tuesday to Sunday and is closed on public holidays.
