Tigers ready to pounce

AFTER weeks of waiting, the WDCA cricket season is now just days away, with cricketers across the area finally able to pull on the whites and take guard in front of the stumps.

With the state surpassing the all–important 80 per cent double vaccination mark required by Victoria's roadmap, competitive sport has been given the green light to begin.

Ovens Valley United Cricket Club (OVUCC) will field a full complement of teams for the 2021/22 season, from under 12s all the way to the A grade.

OVUCC A grade coach Dan Walker said all of the players were beyond excited for the season to get underway.

"Everyone's pretty keen, as we have had a big lead up to the season with plenty of training sessions including a couple of practice T20s matches," he said.

"I think the boys are eager to actually start the season, whether we are playing one–dayers or T20s or two–dayers."

The A grade and A reserve fixtures will kick off with T20 double headers this Saturday, with A grade sides playing on the various pitches in Wangaratta, and A reserve squads making the trip down to Benalla.
