Vax, testing clinics’ hours reducing

HOURS will be reduced at Northeast Health Wangaratta's (NHW) COVID–19 vaccination and screening clinics from next week.

The changes are being made due to reduced demand.

From the week of Monday, March 7 onwards the vaccination clinic will open Sundays from 11.30am–2.30pm and on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.30am–6pm.

Any pre–existing appointments on other days of the week will be honoured.

The COVID–19 screening clinic will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays from 8am–11am.

NHW acting chief executive officer Robyn Gillis said the changes were being made to ensure hospital resources were allocated to where there was the greatest demand.

"We are averaging around 80 vaccinations per day, which is well below our peak of 400," she said.

"We're also doing less than 400 PCR tests each week at the screening clinic.

"This is largely because community members are accessing their own rapid antigen tests and often don't need to have a PCR test."

The Rural City of Wangaratta continues to have more than 200 active COVID–19 positive cases, while NHW has been caring for between 2–4 COVID–19 positive cases in the hospital and between 20–30 people in their home through COVID–positive pathways.
