The Masked Lapwing

On these cold, clear nights the distinctive and haunting calls of Masked Lapwings can be heard across lightly timbered open farmland and from ovals and parks in rural towns.

Masked Lapwings are large, ground-dwelling birds that are mainly white on the belly, with brown wings and back and a black crown.

Large yellow ‘wattles’ of skin cover their face and they have black on the back of their neck...
