Volunteers kept eyes to the skies for war effort

EIGHTY years ago, the Commonwealth Bank building on the corner of Murphy and Reid streets was the base for a volunteer war effort which involved a host of locals, both in Wangaratta and outlying districts.

The role played by the Volunteer Air Observers Corps (VAOC) is one etched in history, but perhaps only in a few memories as years advance.
