Burnouts are back

By JOHN PATTON

ACTION returns to the Wangaratta City Raceway complex on Saturday after nearly 12 months hiatus due to bushfires last summer, then COVID-19 which saw the club postpone the remainder of the 2019 season and the start of their new season.

But this Saturday the cobwebs will be well and truly cleared with the running of the Wangaratta Skid Fest.

With 50 plus starters and some of the biggest names in the country entered the event should be a beauty.

With burnout royalty such as the likes of Lynchy and Steven Edstall and also local competitors Travis ‘Hollywood’ Miller, Andrew Clarke, Luke Gilbert and Tyson Hill all headlining the show, the competition will be fierce.

Add to that the 40 plus other cars looking to knock the big boys off their perch and the action will be nonstop.

During the off season the club was able to more than double the size of the existing burnout pad, something that has been on the ‘to do’ list for some time, and finally coming to fruition over the Christmas break.

With a window of opportunity opening up to attract a good field of quality burnout cars, the Wangaratta Skid Fest has been put together thanks to the tireless efforts of event organiser and club vice president Kenneth Mankey.

"The club took a huge financial hit during COVID-19 and to get up and running again with such a huge event is encouraging for everyone involved," Mankey said earlier this week.

Gates open at the track at 9am for spectators and the first event is scheduled for 11am and non-stop action is guaranteed all day, with full bar (strictly no BYO) and canteen available a great day will be enjoyed by all.
