A MAJORITY of the 4500 residences and some major businesses within the Rural City of Wangaratta that lost electricity supply shortly before 8am this morning have had it restored.
AusNet Services' website tracker showed two unplanned outages struck prior to 8am, in Upper Lurg and Lurg, following a thunderstorm and associated lightning.
Of the customers who lost power, 3367 were located within Wangaratta with others spread throughout rural communities and towns including Moyhu, Glenrowan, Greta, Oxley, Docker, Laceby, Boweya, Myrrhee and Hansonville.
Ground crews, assisted by a helicopter, spent the morning pinpointing the outages and had power restored to all but around 350 customers before 2pm.
Around 78 customers in Wangaratta and a further 280 in Moyhu, Myrrhee, Hansonville and Greta are expected to get their power restored by 6pm Sunday.

With several thunderstorms moving across the North East, another unplanned outage late morning saw around 150 customers at Boorhaman, Peechleba East and Docker Plains also lose power, with another outage impacting hundreds of customers in Harrietville and Buffalo River areas.
Ausnet Services said it was expecting to have their power restored before 7pm Sunday.
