Swanpool prize scrapped for 2021

WITH just five weeks to go until it opened, the Swanpool Creative Recycled Art Prize (SCRAP), which celebrates art made from repurposed materials, has been postponed once again.

The decision was made following a recent meeting of the SCRAP working group, where the current risks within the planning timeline were evaluated.

President Peter Finney said it was a difficult decision to make, but necessary due to the uncertainty of the current COVID climate.

"With the risk of the pandemic forcing us back into lockdowns, and the low rate of vaccinations to date, the Swanpool and District Community Development Association has made the tough decision to postpone the event," he said.

"The risk to our community currently outweighs the benefit of delivering the SCRAP exhibition."

Mr Finney said the Swanpool community was resilient and would start planning the next event and in the meantime they would take stock of where they are and how they can work together towards a permanent solution.

He said the working group thanks everyone for their continued to support over the past 18 months, and will try to stage the event again in 2022.
