Mullets of Australia – you are in demand

MOST of us would be aware that the most polarising of hairdos, the mullet, is right back in fashion, thanks largely to sports stars and the rise of the 'bogan' culture.

Since 2008 the Mullet festival (Mulletfest) has been held in Kurry Kurri, NSW to find the country, if not the world's best mullets and this year they have opened up entries online for July only.

The event honours the best mullet cuts in various styles and categories, including 'everyday', 'grubby', 'ranga' (red hair), 'vintage', 'extreme', 'international' and 'junior'.

This means it is open to mullets from all over Australia who haven't had the opportunity to get to a face–to–face heat.

Just as a festive treat they have also added a pet category just for this online entry, so if your dog or your pet sheep has the perfect mullet, now is your chance to show them off.

A winner from each category will be chosen by a panel of Mulletfest judges and receive a wild card entry into the grand final which will be held in Kurri Kurri in December.

Entries close at midnight on July 31 and will be announced at the next Mulletfest event at the Commercial Hotel in Dubbo on August 20.

Like our other heats, all entrants' photos will be added to Facebook and open for public vote for the People Choice Award.

The winner will not only get a wild card entry into the Grand Final but also a bonus prize thanks to Volley of your choice of a pair of shoes from their heritage range.

Mulletfest is all about raising money for the Mark Hughes Foundation, so entrants will be helping families who are suffering through their darkest days after a brain cancer diagnosis.

There is some brand–new merch available online including our new Mullet headband, pre–orders for our 2023 calendar thanks to Calendar Club and entries are now open for the Christmas in July promotion as well as face–to–face heats in Dubbo, Dookie, and Murrurundi.

Mulletfest is already making plans for 2023 and if you are a venue that wants to host a heat next year they want to hear from you.
