No change proposed for Indi boundaries

BOUNDARIES of the federal electorate of Indi are not proposed to change under a review of federal electoral divisions for Victoria.
In its report published on Friday, the Redistribution Committee for Victoria proposed names and boundaries for the state’s federal electoral divisions following a review over the past 12 months.
Committee chair and Electoral Commissioner, Tom Rogers, said the Victorian redistribution was required to enable an increase from 38 to 39 electoral divisions in the state.
“Under the proposal, the boundaries of all but nine of Victoria’s existing electoral divisions would change, the additional division of Hawke would be created and one electoral division
would be renamed,” Mr Rogers said.
“Ongoing population growth in parts of Victoria has led the Redistribution Committee to propose a number of substantial changes to some of the state’s electoral division boundaries.”
Indi electorate is one of the nine not proposed to undergo any change.
In its report the committee said enrolment in the current Division of Indi was 113,713 at July 15, 2020 and is projected to be 118,756 electors by January 26, 2025, which is within the numerical requirements of the Electoral Act.
“The Division of Indi can therefore gain up to 2449 electors from other electoral divisions, or transfer up to 5747 electors to other electoral divisions, and remain within the permissible range for the maximum and minimum number of electors in an electoral division at the projection time,” the report said.
The committee said it formed the view that altering Indi’s boundaries with neighbouring electoral divisions “was not required in balancing the numerical requirements of surrounding electoral divisions and therefore did not deem any changes  to the Division of Indi to be necessary at this time”.
The committee therefore proposes no alteration to the boundaries of the Division of Indi.
The proposed Division of Indi will continue to consist of: Alpine, Benalla, Indigo, Mansfield, Murrindindi and Towong shire councils; Wangaratta Rural City and Wodonga City councils; part of the Strathbogie Shire Council; and Falls Creek, Lake Mountain, Mount Buller, Mount Hotham and Mount Stirling alpine resorts.
