Albury records COVID-related death

A  FURTHER six COVID–positive cases have been identified in Wangaratta in the 24 hours to 8:30 this morning.

More than 500 tests have been conducted at the Wangaratta Showgrounds screening clinic on most days this week, following its expansion to accommodate four lanes of traffic as testing requirements surged throughout the North East.

According to Albury Wodonga Health (AWH) Local Public Health Unit (LPHU), 371 cases are currently active throughout the North East, with seven patients currently hospitalised as clusters in Albury and Wodonga continue to worsen.

Some 45 new cases were identified in Wodonga to 8:30am today.

This afternoon, AWH announced an individual in their 80s had passed away due to COVID-related complications at Albury base hospital earlier this week.

The individual was confirmed to have received one dose of a vaccine, and was said to have underlying medical conditions.

A new tier one exposure site was also identified in Wangaratta overnight, with anyone who visited D‘Amicos Italian Restaurant on October 22 between 6:20pm and 8pm urged to get tested and isolate for seven days from exposure if fully vaccinated, and 14 days if not.

As local schools continue to battle outbreaks within their communities, students have been informed they will not require a COVID test unless they are identified as a primary close contact of a positive case, with all correspondence set to be handled by school administrations.

Northeast Health Wangaratta (NHW) is set to continue its vaccination outreach program over coming days, as Wangaratta continues to close in on the 90 per cent double vaccination threshold for its 16 and over population.

The outreach van will be available in the Baker Street Dan Murphy‘s carpark on October 30 between 10am and 4pm, and will also set up at Burke Street‘s Open Door Neighbourhood House on November 3 between 10am and 3pm.
