Hallelujah Christmas concert brings together the Wangaratta Symphony Orchestra (WSO) and Chime Choir (from Melbourne) for an uplifting program of traditional and contemporary Christmas favourites on Sunday, 7 December at the Wangaratta Performing Arts and Convention Centre (WPACC).

Enjoy orchestral classics like O Holy Night, Once in Royal David’s City, and the ever-popular Sleigh Ride by Leroy Anderson and some wonderful Choral works such as Jubilate Deum, Breath of Heaven and the 12 Days of Christmas.

Then experience the magic as choir and orchestra unite to perform stirring excerpts from Handel’s Messiah, including the triumphant Hallelujah Chorus, along with a heartwarming community carol sing-along.

WSO conductor Aaron Wardle said the audience can expect a fantastic performance of wonderful Christmas music to really get into the swing of Christmas.

"The orchestra will perform some classics, the choir will then bring all they’ve got, and in the second half we join together for some amazing music," he said.

"There will even be an opportunity for the audience to get involved with some of them, and we will finish with Handel’s iconic Hallelujah Chorus."

The choir, formed in 1984, includes members from diverse backgrounds passionate about performing heartfelt choral music.

Participating in the World Choir Games in New Zealand, they won Gold and Silver medals in various categories.

The orchestra and choir will perform separately, as well as joining together for some pieces.

The joint project came about when a member of the choir attended the jazz concert in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in 2024 with the WSO and the Daisies.

The member was so impressed that they asked Aaron whether the orchestra would be willing to play with their choir, "Absolutely" was the response.

"As an orchestra, we are always looking to give our players fantastic performance opportunities- so when the opportunity came to collaborate with Chime, we took it." Aaron said.

"It’s a thrill to share those experiences with our audience as well.

"The concert is for all ages, so bring your parents, bring your kids or grandkids - everyone will enjoy this special event.

"If you like music, if you like singing, if you like Christmas, all in the comfort and convenience of a great venue at the WPACC, then Hallelujah Christmas is something not to be missed."
