More than skin: Jess builds a space for care, connection and confidence

At Skinsational Cosmetic Nursing, Jess O'Sullivan has created something rare. It’s not just a clinic. It’s a place where science meets care, and where women feel seen, supported and understood. Jess didn’t set out to build a business straight away. She trained in cosmetic injectables in 2014, then paused to raise her son. When her family moved back to Wangaratta, she noticed a gap. “Clients were travelling to Melbourne for treatments,” she said. “I wanted to make those services accessible locally". She started small, renting a room in her sister’s salon. Within months, she outgrew it. Then came a move to another spot, and eventually, the purchase of her own building in 2022. “It was a huge step,” she said. “But I knew we were ready.” The clinic now offers advanced skin treatments using medical-grade devices. Jess and her team work with lasers, LED, IPL and radiofrequency to help clients achieve real results. “We’re not just about pampering,” she said. “We’re here to transform skin and build confidence.” That commitment was recognised on the weekend, when Skinsational received the Legacy Partnership Award from Synergie Skin. The award honours clinics that have shown long-term dedication to clean science, education and ethical care. “It means a lot,” Jess said. “We’ve worked with Synergie for years. Their values match ours—honesty, innovation and care.” Jess’s passion for women’s health goes beyond the clinic. In 2023, she organised a local event for Women’s Health Week. It grew into a full-day forum on perimenopause, with 200 women attending and a panel of experts. “We didn’t make money from it,” she said. “It was about education and support. "Women deserve to feel informed and supported through these changes.” She’s proud to use Australian-made products and support Victorian jobs. “Shopping local isn’t just about buying from a shopfront,” she said. “It’s about backing businesses that care about their community.” That care shows in every part of Skinsational. Jess knows her clients by name. She listens. She remembers. “Sometimes we spend half the appointment catching up,” she laughed. “It’s more than a transaction. It’s a relationship.” When locals choose her clinic, it makes a real difference. “It helps us grow, hire more staff, and give back,” she said. “We sponsor local sports clubs, support events, and keep jobs here.” Her advice for supporting local? “Leave a Google review. Tell your friends.
