The Rural City of Wangaratta, with support from VicHealth and the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre (WSAC), is launching a community campaign designed to promote accessible fitness and empower women, girls, and gender-diverse people to get involved and stay involved.
Previously named This Girl Can, Wang Women Can aligns with VicHealth’s Building Active Communities framework, which encourages councils to amplify inclusive sport and recreation opportunities and reduce barriers to participation.
WSAC will host free group fitness classes at local outdoor venues, welcoming everyone to join in no matter your experience, fitness level, or background.
“These classes are about movement without judgement,” said Leon Newton, manager of sport, aquatic and events precinct.
“These activities and programs aim to provide a safe first step for women to start and to get out and active in their local community.”
Upcoming classes include:
• Mat Pilates: 7pm on Tuesday, 18 November at Barr One Oval with instructor Penny.
• Zumba: 7pm on Thursday, 20 November at King George Gardens with instructor Jenny.
• Mat/yoga hybrid: 11am on Saturday, 22 November at Barr One Oval with instructor Karen.
Bookings are preferred but not required.
This is open to members and non-members of WSAC.
