THE Bobinawarrah community has been thrust into the national spotlight, after Channel Nine flagship program ‘A Current Affair’ highlighted the region’s opposition to a proposed $750m Meadow Creek solar farm project in a segment late last week.
Meadow Creek Agricultural Community Action Group (MCACAG) members John and Jess Conroy were the heavy focus of Friday’s telecast, detailing their concerns around the ability of community members to afford to insure against fires which could impact the site, as well as the proposed build’s potential impact on the region’s prime agricultural land.
A Current Affair reporters visited the community on January 23, attending a meeting at the Bobinawarrah Hall which attracted farmers and other concerned residents from throughout the district.
The proposed 566ha development is expected to power up to 110,000 homes.
