Many spend their Christmas Day surrounded by their loved ones, absorbing the holiday cheer.
But according to Reverend Hoon You of Wangaratta Uniting Church, not everyone has that privilege, with many spending Christmas alone; a particularly isolating period to be without friends, family, or any other connection.
The Wangaratta Community Christmas Lunch offers a resolve; a social lunch event held annually on Christmas Day in the Uniting Church Hall.
For members of the community who may otherwise spend the day alone, this heartwarming initiative instils a sense of connection, support, and of course, the spirit of Christmas within them.
The event depends on a dedicated team of community volunteers, with food this year generously donated by the RSL and the Wangaratta Club.
They have also opened a wonderful opportunity for a community group or a local business in the area to coordinate the event.
This role involves organising volunteers, advertising the event, setting up the event, ensuring the donated food is heated and served in compliance with food safety laws on the day of the event, and cleaning up.
Those interested in possibly taking on this role should contact Reverend Hoon You (Wangaratta Uniting Church) at hoonyou@gmail.com.
Expressions of interest close 30 November, so be sure to reach out as soon as possible if this is something your group or business would be keen to be involved with.
