An infant and a child were hospitalised following a two car collision on the corner of Cribbes Road and Salisbury Street in Wangaratta on Sunday afternoon.

A Wangaratta police spokesperson said an SUV travelling east on Cribbes Road towards Murdoch Road was struck by a Toyota sedan which failed to give way as it exited Salisbury Street shortly after 3pm.

"The driver of the SUV saw the oncoming sedan and swerved to avoid it but was stuck, with the impact causing the vehicle to roll onto to its roof," the police spokesperson said.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said Advanced Life Support paramedics were called to the scene around 3:15pm to treat the three occupants in the SUV.

A baby and a child with upper body injuries were taken by road in a stable condition and a woman in her 30s was hospitalised for observation at Northeast Health Wangaratta.

Police said the male driver of the sedan was uninjured and has been issued with an infringement notice for failing to give way.

"He was very remorseful and co-operative," the police spokesperson said.

"It's a reminder to all drivers to maintain full concentration at all times when driving, particularly in neighbourhood streets you may be familiar with."
