THE 2024 Goulburn Murray Storm Premiership -Women’s League Tag Grand Final saw the Wangaratta Knights face off against the Corowa Cougars in a thrilling encounter that had fans on the edge of their seats until the final whistle.

The match, held at Glenrowan Recreation Reserve on Saturday, August 24 saw the Knights emerge victorious with a 20-0 win.

This was a meaningful match to both the Knights and Cougars, with the Knights not having played a grand final match since their debut season in 2017, and the Cougars’ women playing a grand final for the first time.

Scored in the sixth minute, the first try for the game was scored and converted by Tiana Stuart, and set the tone for the rest of the match, showcasing the growth and effort put in by all Knights ladies over the season.

Keeping the Cougars on the defensive front, the Knights continued utilising their strong backline, scoring three more tries (Sally Kaiwai, Destiny Dodd and Constance Dodd) and one more conversion (Tiana Stuart).

The score wasn’t a completely accurate reflection of the Knights winning with ease, as three other tries were deemed unsuccessful by the referee.

Following the game the Knights received the trophy, and player of the match was awarded to Rain Dodd.

The Wangaratta Knights presentation and awards night will be held on Saturday, September 7, with the NRL Victoria Goulburn Murray presentation to follow on the September 14.
