WANGARATTA Junior District Football League clubs Kangaroos and Tigers played off in Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Spirit of Sport round last Saturday at Wareena Park.
The Spirit of Sport Awards Program was created to reward young participants in team sport for sportsmanship, fair play and mutual respect.
In partnership with various sporting bodies and Victoria Police the program is widely supported in football and netball throughout country Victoria.
All these categories ensure that every level involved in junior sport is linked to promoting fairness, mutual respect, and enjoyment of sport, rather than winning at all costs.
Sgt Travis Carroll, president Victoria Police Blue Ribbon Foundation Northeast Branch, said It was a terrific day that brought the clubs together raising awareness about the Blue Ribbon Foundation and the proceeds of all funds raised and merchandise sold, will go to support our local hospitals.
"Together with the Wangaratta Kangaroos and Tigers Junior Football Clubs we are incredibly proud of the players, supporters and volunteers for making Saturday the 3rd of August such a fantastic day with all games played in the Spirit of the Blue Ribbon Foundation," Sgt Carroll said.
"The Blue Ribbon Foundation Northeast Branch is very grateful for the support of Wangaratta police, (Senior Constable Hayley McDonald) and Whitfield police (Leading Senior Constable Paul Guy) who attended in the day and presented medals to the players.
"Congratulations to the medal recipients on the day who were awarded for their display of sportsmanship, fair play and mutual respect."
