Have you ever felt like you just can't breathe?
Not choking or coughing, just like you're stuck in a dream?
It's like your mouth is stapled shut when you try to scream.
No sound will make an escape, you just hope you're seen.
Your chest grows tight, your body starts to sweat.
You will spiral with panic, like a frightened pet.
Have you ever tried to hold back tears?
Eyes water up, and you tremble for what feels like years.
You pray no one asks, "Are you okay?"
Because you're not seeking love; pity or a flower bouquet.
It feels like there is something lodged in your throat.
No words will come, so you silently take note.
Have you ever wished you weren't so quiet?
Because inside my head it sounds like a riot.
I should use my voice to make decisions.
Not let someone else control my conditions.
My head is filled with noise,
And I wish I could just relax and enjoy.
Thumping, bumping and banging,
All clatter on the inside touching and tapping.
But somewhere between the noise and despair,
A whisper starts to rise, light as air.
Have you ever wished life was fair?
I haven't, not really.
But I have had my share.
Yes, there were dark parts,
but light ones too.
And I'm grateful for the path that led me through.
Maybe I should speak up for what's right,
Because I'm well aware you like to pick a fight.
I can do this on my own,
And I can see that now because I've grown.
