The line-up for the Wangaratta and District Cricket Association’s junior representative teams for the summer have been confirmed, following Sunday’s trial matches.
Across the North East, players from around the association competed for spots in two under 12 squads, as well as teams for under 13s, under 14s, under 15s, and under 16s/17s, as well as an all girls side.
There were a few standouts from the trials.
Ovens Valley United’s Hunter Harris hit an unbeaten 50* from 33 balls in the under 12 Blue trial match, in an innings which included seven fours and a six.
The runs were flowing in the under 14 trial, which saw three half centuries belted at Barr Reserve 2.
Wangaratta Magpies’ Harry Edwards (50 ret off 82), Benalla’s Noah Anderson (52 ret off 65), and Ovens Valley United’s Louis Sanderson (50 ret off 42) all raised the bat, while Greta’s Bodi Jackson was left stranded on 49* from 69 balls.
With the ball, Benalla’s Noah Cooney was dangerous, taking 4/9 from his five overs, with an economy of 1.80, in the under 15s trial game held at the Benalla Showgrounds.
The representative sides will hit the ground running, with their first fixture on this Sunday, when WDCA hosts Cricket Shepparton for the annual Shepparton Challenge.
Following the Shepparton Challenge, WDCA representative teams will take on Murray Valley CA on Sunday, 14 December; Northern Rivers Country Week from 5-9 January; and North East Region six Country Week from Sunday, 11 January.
