The Tarrawingee Golf Club is inviting its golfing community past and present to join them in celebrating the club’s farewell day on Sunday, 14 December before closing down.
The proud club announced it would cease operation at the end of the year due to declining members and participation, with the course to fall under the management of the Tarrawingee Recreation Reserve committee.
Golfers will have the final chance to play the nine-hole course for the club’s last day next Sunday.
People can play 18 holes or nine holes, with the 18-hole tee off starting at 9:30am and nine-hole players beginning at 10:30am.
Afterwards there will be a get-together at the Tarrawingee Memorial Hall clubhouse from around 1:30pm for refreshments, where the club invites everyone to hang around and reminisce on the 59 years of Tarrawingee golf.
Ladies captain Toni Wilson said the finish would be somewhat poetic for the club, having started on a Sunday back in 1966, they will end on a Sunday 59 years later.
“We would really like to see as many people as possible at the course, particularly those who have been involved with it over the years,” she said.
As the club vacates the premises, its honour boards and trophy cabinets remain as a reminder of its rich history and contribution to the community.
Wilson along with Peter Nolan were late additions to life memberships at the club's last AGM.
“It was a particularly lovely honour to get it in the last minute,” Toni said.
“You get involved to help, not for the accolades and I’ve really enjoyed it over the years.”
