WANGARATTA City young gun Kai Lyster has signed for Brunswick Juventus in the Victorian National Premier League Two.

Off the back of an outstanding season with the Devils, Lyster trialled with the Melbourne–based club with great success, winning his way into the squad.

The 18–year–old will most likely play in the under 21 side which finished fifth in the 2022 NPL2 season.

Outgoing Wangaratta City coach Daniel Vasilevski said he's not surprised Lyster is moving on to bigger things.

"I'm really happy that he's taking a step up and heading down to Melbourne," Vasilevski said.

"Watching Kai develop over the last few years he's definitely one of the best young players I've seen talent wise with his technique and ability.

"The last few years he's gotten an opportunity to develop the physical side of his game and also his competitiveness.

"I think playing a few years in the seniors will definitely benefit him down in Melbourne, any league in Melbourne is tough but I think he'll hold his own."

Lyster found the back of the net eight times for Wangaratta last season, proving to be a key cog in the sides' midfield.

Vasilevski said Lyster's has it all.

"He's good on both feet, has great vision and a good range of passing," he said.

"He's got a good short pass but he can also knock a 40 yard ball and he scores goals as well.

"He's also deceivingly strong, he's pretty light framed but is so strong over the ball

"I think he's got the ability to succeed but it'll just come down to how much he wants to play at the level."

Lyster has always been a strong player, previously selected to represent Victoria Country at the 2018 National Championships in Coffs Harbour at under–14 level, and played in Murray United's junior ranks.

He was selected to tour Japan as part of the Regional Victoria under–13 squad in 2017.
