AN intriguing historic discovery during a fireside chat has prompted The Vine Hotel’s owners to seek assistance from the public.Co-manager Jimmy Ladgrove said he and mum Cathy were chatting about plans for the North Wangaratta hotel in the early hours of one recent Saturday morning when his mum noticed something under the mantlepiece above the fireplace.They investigated, and discovered an old playing card, then kept looking and found 19 more, caught between the wood and the brick of the fireplace, which is an original part of the hotel.
