WANGARATTA residents and employees will be unable to cross the Victorian-NSW border from today, with exemptions to be permitted only under “extremely limited purposes”.

The change comes with the scrapping of a 50km border zone rule that had caused confusion over the last fortnight since the state closure was enforced due to large outbreaks of coronavirus in metropolitan Melbourne.

Under the new restrictions only border residents residing within 2km either side of the state line are allowed to cross, other than those who meet the stricter eligibility criteria.
