MAYOR Dean Rees will be serving another four year term on council, but who else joins him from the Rural City of Wangaratta’s three contested wards remains too close to call, with counting in the 2020 council election to continue today.
Latest available tallies in the City Ward vote count seen by the Wangaratta Chronicle, prior to yesterday’s rest day for the Victorian Electoral Commission, had Mr Rees on 3215 first preference votes, with Jack Herry on 1275, Julian Fidge 947, Ken Clarke 672, Ashlee Fitzpatrick 636, Rose Wedler 623, Dave Fuller 611, Simon Verdon on 469, Thomas Crumpton 290, Joe O’Keefe 160 and George Dimopoulos 156.
Mr Rees’ tally exceeds the quota required to be elected, and his surplus votes will be redistributed to other candidates, based on voters’ second preferences, to help determine which three of the City’s Wards remaining 10 candidates will be elected.
