The festive spirit is alive and well in Wangaratta, thanks to a heart-warming collaboration between the Wangaratta Kennel & Obedience Dog Club and Appin Street Butcher.
For the second-year running, club members have created 25 Advent Grocery Boxes for community members who need a little extra support this Christmas.
Each box is filled with essential groceries, a voucher from Appin Street Butcher, and a special gift from the club reminding recipients that they are not alone during the holiday season.
Organiser Melissa Murdock said unlike a traditional advent calendar filled with chocolates or trinkets, these boxes offer something more practical.
"As a club we really want to give back and for me Christmas is all about giving," she said.
"We know there are people struggling and we're hoping that this eases the burden."
The recipients include people facing hardship, those who have lost loved ones, or anyone struggling through what should be a joyful time of year.
The advent boxes will be delivered to local organisations who will distribute them to those in need.
Melissa said they know the cost of living is high, and sometimes people are dealing with illness or grief.
"This is about making sure everyone feels that Christmas is special, everyone deserves a gift,” she said.
"We have to work together as a community."
