Five years ago staff at Wangaratta council knew there was a movement towards the recycling of organics material and they had a vision of building and operating the first local government run processing facility in Victoria.
Although ‘the green lidded bin’ was met with some rejection in the beginning, there were several fronts why council wanted to proceed with the establishment of an organics processing facility at Bowser.
The greatest emitter of greenhouse gases in landfill are organics materials and by diverting and converting them into environmentally friendly matter, council’s bottom line is being cut and every single resident is doing their bit for the ozone layer.
