Preparations are well under way for the Wangaratta Chronicle Marathon and Fun Run, to be held at the Wangaratta Showgrounds on Sunday, 23 March, 2026.
Race director Liam Delany said Wangaratta’s largest running event will mark its 15th anniversary and it will again be a celebration of health and fitness in the community, with the full and half marathons, 10km, 5km and 2km Primary School Challenge offering something for everyone.
“We are excited to announce all of our sponsors are coming back again to support the Wangaratta Marathon in 2026, offering more than $10,000 in prizemoney,” he said.
Garry Nash and Co Real Estate are again major sponsor of the marathon, with $3500 in prize money up for grabs.
The RJ Sanderson & Associates Half Marathon has $2400 in prize money; the Wangaratta BFT 10km event has $1700 in prize money; Johnsons MME 5km event has $1200 in prize money; and Wangaratta Intersport 2km event has $450 in gift vouchers.
Mr Delany said the strong community support, including that of Wangaratta Chronicle as the naming rights and media partner, and Wholefoods Wangaratta with fresh produce “means we can deliver an even better event in 2026”.
“The Wangaratta Lions Club is again going to provide a lot of volunteer support, and the donation we make to the club goes back to local community projects,” he said.
Mr Delany said course changes have been ironed out to ensure the distances are as accurate as possible whilst maintaining a high level of safety for the runners and walkers.
“Given the 2025 event was the first time the North East Sport team have organised the event we can expect a few minor changes to further improve the event experience,” he said.
“Entries are open and selling fast thanks to the running boom we are living in right now.
“After this year’s hot event the 2026 event has been pushed back a week in the hope the late March date will see a nice cool morning for running.”
