A variable message sign on the Wangaratta-Whitfield Road on the approach to the Whitfield township is warning drivers of impending delays when significant roadworks begin, starting this month.
Transport Victoria advises rehabilitation works will be undertaken on a 1.8km section of the Wangaratta-Whitfield Road, Whitfield, as a section of road between Peipers Lane and Whitty Lane is rebuilt.
It is expected to take approximately 11 weeks to complete, excluding Christmas holiday shutdown and weather permitting.
The rebuilding includes pavement, drainage and guard rail works north of Gentle Annie Lane, along with patching and resurfacing works south of Gentle Annie Lane.
Crews will be working from 7am to 6pm Monday to Friday with weekend and night works as required.
Transport Victoria says during the works, there will be lane closures and reduced speeds in place, and delays of five to 10 minutes should be expected.
The project is part of Transport Victoria's maintenance program in the Hume region for 2025-26.
