Sweet entrepreneurs

Year 5/6 students spent the first half of the term brainstorming creative business ideas and planning to build their own successful small business.

Prior to presenting their ideas to staff for approval, students gave thought to what challenges they may have versus the potential benefits.

Once approval for their business was received, they developed effective promotional advertising as well as creating their product.

When the shops opened for business a roaring trade took place, with party bags, jewellery and frozen yoghurt among the wide variety of items for sale, purchased by enthusiastic customers.

The money raised will go to the school to support a variety of programs that will help all students.

Market Day success

Grade 5/6 students hosted an impressive Market Day, designing their own stalls, budgets and advertising.

Families and students enjoyed baked treats, sliders, colourful hair spray, face painting, snacks, arcade-style games and more.

It was a vibrant celebration of creativity, teamwork and entrepreneurial spirit.

Big day of music

This week the symphonic and stage bands put on an awesome concert for local primary school students from across the region.

They showcased the instruments in the band, played some crowd-favourite tunes, and even got a few brave volunteers up on stage to try out the percussion section.

Mr Solimo kept everyone entertained with plenty of dad jokes (you’re welcome, teachers).

A huge thank you went to the students and staff from the primary schools who came along including Wangaratta West, Appin Park, Milawa, Oxley, Moyhu, Myrrhee and Whitfield.

Almost 500 students filling the hall, and the high school loved sharing the joy of music with everyone.

Canine therapy

Students Max Herrmann-O’Brien and Archie Nottingham enjoyed a quick hug from therapy dog Fenella before the bus left school one day.

The joy experienced by the students shows just how dogs can completely strip us of our anxiety with a quick pat and a hug.

The school community is proud of what a therapy dog Fenella has turned out to be.

Bike hike

Recently the grade 3–6 students took part in an incredible three-day bike hike along the Great Victorian Rail Trail, with the junior students joining them for the last day of riding.

Their journey began in Mansfield, where they set off on the 37.5km ride to Merton.

Along the way, students enjoyed cruising across the bridge at Bonnie Doon and stopping to admire some of the unique sculptures dotted along the trail.

After a big day on the bikes, the evening was spent cooling off in the caravan park pool and sharing a delicious BBQ dinner.

Day 2 saw students ride from Merton to Molesworth, covering another 29km, with the group loving the freedom of a long 5km downhill section, and even pausing to let a “wriggly stick” make its safe crossing.

On the third and final day, students set off from Molesworth and completed the last 16.5km to Yea.

A highlight of the day was riding through the Cheviot Tunnel, the longest rail trail tunnel in Victoria at 201 metres.

All of the students displayed remarkable resilience, teamwork and positivity throughout the entire adventure.

They should be so proud of themselves for their incredible effort and the fun, supportive way they tackled the challenge.
