A MYRTLEFORD man has been charged with assault of police officers, hindering police and lighting a fire during a prohibited period after a confrontation on Sunday night.
Senior Sergeant Doug Incoll of Bright police said the local CFA was called after the 46-year-old man started a rubbish fire in his backyard.
“He was extremely confrontational with CFA members on arrival so the police were called,” he said.
“He was then also confrontational and entirely uncooperative with us which resulted in him being charged on summons with assault of police officers, hindering police as well as lighting a fire during a prohibited period.
“The CFA were able to access and put out the fire via the back fence.”
Sen Sgt Incoll encouraged the community to remember the current Fire Danger Period and go to https://cfa.vic.gov.au/can for more information on restrictions.
