KATE Fawkner accomplished a clean sweep at the recent Australian Track and Field Championships winning a gold silver and bronze medal.
Ms Fawkner is a seated para–Olympic athlete who recently won a gold medal in seated discuss, a silver medal in seated javelin and a bronze medal in seated shot put.
Due to a disrupted training season, Ms Fawkner said she didn't have high expectations for how she would go in the competition this year.
"Winning gold , silver and bronze this week at the Australian Track and Field Championships is actually bit of a miracle because about six weeks ago at training I had a fall and was taken to the local hospital where I had a CT Scan and it showed that I had a mild stroke," she said.
"I spent a week in hospital with that but it definitely interrupted my up and coming championships.
"What I accomplished on the day was exceptional and I couldn't have been any happier with how we went."
Ms Fawkner currently competes in the men's competitions but hopes that next season she can compete in the women's competition.
"I feel like a door has closed and a new door is about to open up once I'm able to legally cross over to the women's competition under the world para athletics rules," she said.
