THE Bank WAW Ovens and King Football Netball League has officially released it’s 2024 fixture that will no doubt compliment a fantastic finals series that occurred in 2023, with big crowds returning to the football and netball after a challenging few years.
The 2024 season will kick off on Good Friday, March 29, which will shine a spot light on some of the league's key Easter weekend matches such as Moyhu hosting Greta and the 2023 premiers Bonnie Doon hosting Benalla on Good Friday, while the holiday makers in the Valley will see King Valley host Milawa and a big crowd will swarm to Pioneer Park to see Bright take on Tarrawingee, both games on Easter Saturday.
With a weekly bye, and considerations around club preferences and neighbouring league fixtures, the fixture is always one of the more challenging aspects of running the league.
"Every year there are challenges and as a league we do our best to ensure that clubs receive a fair and balanced fixture, while taking into account complexities of the Easter round, a weekly bye, and neighbouring league fixtures," outgoing OKFNL League Manager Pranav Menon said.
"With 11 clubs, playing 18 games across a 20-week fixture, it is not always possible to accommodate a consistent home and away fixture, however, we have done our best to provide all clubs with a fair and equitable outcome."
The OKFNL have maintained similar timeframes for their season, with the finals series scheduled to start on August 24 and the league's showpiece event scheduled for the September 14.
