A Gapsted man is in custody after allegedly speeding and avoiding police in a chase through Melbourne’s north western suburbs on Tuesday morning.
A Victoria Police spokesperson said officers spotted a Toyota Camry allegedly speeding in Moonee Ponds about 1:20am.
The police Air Wing was deployed and followed the vehicle through eight different suburbs from Aberfeldie to Coburg.
In Brunswick West, it’s alleged a passenger exited the vehicle and escaped before officers deployed stop sticks, deflating all four tyres on Melville Road.
“The vehicle then turned into McPherson Street – a dead-end street – and officers moved in, arresting a 32-year-old Gapsted man,” the spokesperson said.
He was charged with multiple offences including failure to stop on police direction, dangerous driving, unlicenced driving and failure to comply with an oral fluid test.
He was remanded into custody and due to face the Melbourne Magistrates’ Court later on Tuesday.
