A1: Wangaratta Hyundai A1 never recovered from a poor start against Corowa RSL on Saturday.

Playing at home against the early-season title favourites, Wang was on the back foot as the visitors piled on the pressure to jump out to a big lead with only a quarter of the match completed.

The overall contest was basically done and dusted by the halfway mark.

Although Maurie Braden, Rho Smith, Kent Braden and Graeme Smith lost 17-24, they mounted some sort of comeback in the second half of the match after being down 5-19 at one stage.

Adrian Pantling, Mark Allan, Pete Selwood and Gerald Brown (20-29) were competitive at times, and Trevor Selwood’s rink (16-28) and Phil Davern’s rink (11-29) were both completely outplayed.

Final scores: Wangaratta 0 pts 64 shots lost to Corowa RSL 18 pts 110 shots.

Next week Wang will travel to Yarrawonga.

A4: Wangaratta Nicko’s Butchery A4 fell to a much stronger Corowa RSL at Corowa on Saturday.

Gary King, John Kane, Michael Howard and Ric Chivers were the closest to a rink win for the visitors, losing by seven (18-25).

Steve English’s rink lost 9-30, and Terry Johnson (15-26) and Terry Corrigan (10-50) also lost their rinks.

Final scores: Wangaratta 0 pts 52 shots lost to Corowa RSL 18 pts 131 shots.

Wang will host Yarrawonga next week.

A5: Wang Luminosity A5 had a day to forget at Yackandandah on Saturday.

Ken Essenhigh’s rink lost 17-35, while Keith Izard went down 10-19 and Neil Jensen’s rink lost 10-33.

Final scores: Wangaratta 0 pts 37 shots lost to Yackandandah 14 pts 87 shots.

Wang will host Commercial Club next week.

B2: Wang WinSec B2 were on fire at home against St James on Saturday.

All three rinks were winners for the home side in a maximum points win.

Neil Reid, Tyson Chivers, Giz Tahin and Bob Edwards had a big win (25-9), as did Mick Lenane, Nev Atkins, Bruce Desmond and Tiger Bussell (20-10).

Lyn Kahlefeldt, Ann Keen, Lance Jenkin and Deb Savage completed the clean sweep with a six-shot win, 24-18.

Final scores: Wang 14 pts 69 shots def St James 0 pts 37 shots.

Wangaratta travel to Yarrawonga Mulwala GCR next week.
