A1: Wangaratta Hyundai A1 were no match for ladder leaders Wodonga at Wang on Saturday. The visitors showed how big the gap is between the top and mid-ladder teams as they trounced the home side by a substantial margin, winning all four rinks. Adrian Pantling, Mark Allan, Gerald Brown and Brian Challman dropped two shots on the last end trying to manufacture a rink win as they lost 16-20, while Maurie Braden’s rink was competitive before losing two on the last end, trying to force a draw, as they went down 14-20. Trevor Selwood’s rink was on the end of a masterclass from current Australian squad member Kylie Lavis (4-42), and Phil Davern’s rink struggled to stay in touch, going down 13-32. Final score: Wangaratta 0 pts 47 shots lost to Wodonga 18 pts 114 shots. Next week Wang will travel to Rutherglen. A4: Wangaratta Niko’s Butchery A4 struggled on the slower greens at Dederang after the early morning rain on Saturday. Terry Corrigan, Ric Chivers, John Keen and Tyson Chivers (19-13) did their best to lift the visitors, as did Tom Morrow, Richie Allan, Mick Johnstone and Gayle King, posting a 17-11 win. Terry Johnson’s rink (15-25) and Gary King’s rink (12-27) both struggled on the slow greens. Final scores: Wangaratta 4 pts 63 shots lost to Dederang 14 pts 76 shots. Wang will host Wodonga next week. A5: Wang Luminosity A5 lost to home side Wodonga on Saturday. Ken Essenhigh, Chris Bell, Susan Bull and Kevin Lenehan were the only winning rink for the visitors, posting a comfortable 24-16 win. Lyn Kahlefeldt’s (12-34) and Keith Izard’s (18-30) rinks both suffered big losses. Final score: Wangaratta 2 pts 54 shots lost to Wodonga 12 pts 80 shots. Wang will host Chiltern next week. B2: Wang WinSec B2 failed to win a rink against visitors Howlong/Rutherglen on Saturday. Lyn Sier, Nev Atkins, Lance Jenkin and Lorna Nankervis came close, narrowly going down 18-20, while the rinks of Neil Reid (15-22) and Mick Lennane (17-27) both had bigger losses. Final scores: Wang 0 pts 50 shots lost to Howlong/Rutherglen 14 pts 69 shots. Wangaratta will travel to Corowa RSL next week.
