A1: Wangaratta Hyundai A1 recovered from a sluggish start to power over the top of Yarrawonga on Saturday.
Wang took some time to find their feet on the artificial surface at Yarra and trailed the home side by as many as 20 shots overall with the match half over.
Phil Davern, Greg Braden, Tom Morrow and Gary Fenlon were the only rink to hold a lead at the hallway mark, and they continued on to win their rink 19-16.
Maurie Braden, Rho Smith, Michael Howard and Graeme Smith ignited the comeback when they went on a scoring spree for seven consecutive ends that turned an eight-shot deficit into a seven-shot win (22-15).
Adrian Pantling, Mark Allan, Gerald Brown and John Kane also rallied from six behind to win by two (20-18) and Trevor Selwood’s rink (16-17) just went down against Gary Sanders’ rink.
Final scores: Wangaratta 16 pts 77 shots def Yarrawonga 2 pts 66 shots.
Next week Wang will travel to Yarra/Mul GCR.
A4: Wangaratta Niko’s Butchery A4 had a strong win at home against Yarrawonga on Saturday.
Gary King, Murray Lawn, Mick Johnstone and Rob Worthington were in control all match as they cruised to a 27-17 win, while Terry Johnson, Richard Hermassoo, Barb McDonald and Leon Quartermain were never in trouble on their way to a 25-18 win.
Terry Corrigan, Ric Chivers, John Keen and Tyson Chivers won their rink 19-15, and Brian Challman’s rink fell too far behind early before storming home, losing 15-18.
Final scores: Wangaratta 16 pts 86 shots def Yarrawonga 2 pts 68 shots.
Wang will host North Albury next week.
A5: Wang Luminosity A5 found ladder leaders Commercial Club too tough an assignment at home on Saturday.
The visitors gained maximum points against a weakened Wang side due to some player unavailabilities.
Ron McAuliffe, Chris Bell, Neil Jensen and Tiger Bussell fought hard all day but just went down 18-19, while Lyn Kahlefeldt’s rink (19-27) and Keith Izard’s rink (15-31) also lost their matches.
Final scores: Wangaratta 0 pts 52 shots lost to Commercial Club 14 pts 77 shots.
Wang will host Corryong next week.
B2: Wang WinSec B2 went very close to upsetting undefeated Corowa Civic at Corowa on Saturday.
John Knight, Ann Keen, Lance Jenkin and Lorna Nankervis had a strong win (22-15), while Neil Reid, Trevor Prentice, Giz Tahin and Deb Savage lost 15-19.
Lyn Sier, Mick Lenane, Bob Edwards and Kevin Lenehan also went down, 18-23.
Final scores: Wang 2 pts 55 shots lost to Corowa Civic 12 pts 57 shots.
