WANGARATTA and District Cricket Association junior grand finals were played on the weekend with the premiers named for the under 12s, 14s and 16s for the 2021/22 season.

In the under 12s, Wangaratta Magpies Black were too strong for Ovens Valley United Orange, the under 14s saw City Colts down Rovers United Bruck Green and in the under 16s Rovers United Bruck Green ran away premiers over Yarrawonga Mulwala.

Ovens Valley United Orange were first to bat in the u12s as Ben McMasters (16 not out) steered his side to 4/62 at the end of their 20 overs, while Magpies Black star Harry Edwards grabbed 2/8 off two overs.

It was then Wangaratta Magpies Black's turn to bat and the young guns never looked rattled as Oscar Edwards (31 not out), Lenny Sims (14 not out) and Taite Sims (11 not out) took their side to victory, finishing on 2/84.

In the under 14s City Colts took out the flag off the back of an excellent bowling spell from Hunter Csihar.

City Colts were first in to bat against Rovers United Bruck Green and made it to 116 before being bowled out as James Long (15) and Thanish Gadela (15) top scored.

Reid McNamara was outstanding with the ball for the Hawks taking 2/8 off five overs.

Rovers United Bruck Green got off to a flier with openers McNamara (50 not out) and Xavier Dogshun (34) stamping themseleves on the game.

However, 2/3 off four overs from City Colts young gun Csihar got his side back on track.

The Hawks needed just 16 off 10 overs but collapsed to fall two runs short of the 117 run target.

After 40 overs Rovers United Bruck amassed 5/114 to go down in a thriller.

In the u16s Rovers United Bruck Green held on to beat Yarrawonga Mulwala in a tight tussle.

The Hawks batted first but were bowled out for 116 off the back of 2/12 off six overs from Yarrawonga Mulwala's Lachlan Phillips.

Rovers United Bruck Green's Harry Jones slashed 53 to give his side something to bowl at.

Yarrawonga Mulwala were the favourites to win at the start of their batting innings, chasing 117 for victory.

The Lakers were cruising with Ben Kennedy (30), Phillips (23) and Jobe Fraser (20) doing the heavy lifting through the top order.

However, the Hawks didn't give up, skittling Yarrawonga Mulwala's final seven batters for just eight runs to bowl them out for 109.

3/13 from Jones and 2/1 from Sam Rourke saw Rovers United Bruck home.
