LAST chance general admission tickets will go on sale Friday as excitement builds for the first NBL pre-season game to be played at Wangaratta next week.

The matchup between South East Melbourne Phoenix and Brisbane Bullets on August 29 will unveil the revamped Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre basketball facilities as the two teams ready themselves for the 2024/25 NBL season.

First round of tickets for the game were sold out within 15 minutes of going on sale.

Wangaratta Basketball Inc president Adam Maher said it was an exciting time to be a basketball fan in Wangaratta.

“We’ve never had something this big in Wangaratta before and we want to make sure we’re getting everyone to the game,” he said.

The match will be the first game NBL veteran Nathan Sobey will play as a Phoenix and it comes against his former side of the last five seasons in the Bullets.

Meanwhile, the Bullets will be keen to see the developments of NBA prospect Rocco Zikarsky and unveil former Cleveland Cavalier Deng Adel.

Wangaratta Basketball Inc will also be hosting a sportsman's night on Wednesday with a star-studded line-up of guests including Phoenix star Sobey, Brisbane’s Mitch Norton, NBL legend Daryl ‘D-Mac’ McDonald and Wangaratta’s own WNBL legend Hanna Zavecz.

Maher said it was a night not to be missed and urged the community to rally around the event at the Quality Wangaratta Gateway Hotel.

“They’re fantastic guests, for the older generation D-Mac would be a great guy to come and listen to for the younger generation Nathan Sobey will be a big drawcard and it’s a big game for him against his old side,” he said.

“He's been a pivotal player at Brisbane and I’m sure Phoenix will be hoping he continues in that way there; he’s a great player to watch.

“Hanna Zavecz will be fantastic as well, as a Wangaratta girl who has gone to the pinnacle of basketball.”

The sportsman's night will run from 6:30pm and include a two course meal with drinks at bar prices.
