PREMIER Daniel Andrews has announced that the statewide lockdown will be lifted from midnight tonight following low numbers of positive cases during the 5-day snap shutdown.

In a press conference this morning Mr Andrews reported there were zero positive cases in the last 24 hours from 39,258 tests, the greatest daily number of tests in Victoria since the pandemic began.

Some 3400 close contacts to infected people will self-isolate until next Friday, while the door will open to the rest of Victorians from midnight tonight.

Under the lifting of restrictions which will be reviewed on Friday, February 26, the four reasons to leave home will no longer be in place, neither will the 5km radius from residence rule.

Masks need to be worn indoors and outdoors in cases where people are unable to physically social distance by 1.5 metres.

Up to 20 people will be allowed to attend a public gathering and 50 per cent of workforces will be allowed to attend a workplace at any one time in the public and private sectors.

Visitors to hospitals and care facilities will be limited to one per day.

Schools will reopen tomorrow after many students have undergone remote learning since Monday.

Retail and hospitality will reopen with the same density limits that were in place before the lockdown.

Religious gatherings will be allowed with no number limits on funerals and weddings, however, density limits will be in place according to the size of the venue and square metre ruling.

Sport and recreation can also resume from tomorrow, with density limits also the dictating factor as per venue size and social distancing requirement.

Premier Andrews said all of these restrictions will be reviewed on February 26 when the 14-day epidemiological period has ended.
