ROADSAFE North East (RSNE) will hold a recreational motorcycle training day at Winton MX Club on Saturday, April 24, for riders of all levels.

RSNE executive officer John Weinert said the day was mainly targeted to assist inexperienced riders to learn the essentials of riding in the bush and off-road areas.

"Basically we're looking at upskilling them, we talk about preparing the bike and setting the bike up correctly," Mr Weinert said.

"We talk about the right gear and the equipment you should be taking with you, and the tools to fix your bike on the run as well as safety gear.

"We also talk about when you're riding in a group and the correct way to ride as a group."

Mr Weinert said the training also involved learning skills on how to handle a dirt bike including riding at low speeds and breaking safely.

"We do practice beside the track (Winton) and if anyone's got any energy left they can put their bike on the track and go for a spin," he said.

Participants must have their own motorbikes, which aren't required to be registered, but need to be in a roadworthy condition including working brakes, tyres and chain.

The day will run from 10am to 3pm at Winton MX Club on Wattle Creek Road and costs $50 which includes lunch.
