Centre Against Violence (CAV) is one of seven local organisations to receive a share of $30,000 as part of Give Wangaratta’s recent grant round.
CAV has been awarded $4560 to support their Team CAV: Moving Against Violence initiative.
Team CAV: Moving Against Violence is a community-based prevention initiative that empowers individuals across the Rural City of Wangaratta to take a public stand against family violence and sexual assault.
CAV family violence case manager Hayley Jensen said they are absolutely thrilled to have received the funding to expand the initiative.
"The funding will allow us to produce and distribute 250 new Team CAV shirts - doubling our visibility and impact," she said.
"These shirts are more than activewear, they are walking billboards for safety, respect and support.
"Every shirt represents a public stand against violence and a reminder that everyone deserves to feel safe.
"We are creating spaces where people can be healthy, connect with others.
"Thankyou to Give Wangaratta via the Into our Hands Community Foundation."
Participants can wear the shirts not just on race day, but year-round at events like Park Run and the Mother's Day Classic, helping create ongoing awareness and community connection.
Hayley said don't think you have to run a marathon to be part of it, most of the team do the 5km walk.
"We are also proud to continue our partnership with ACE Radio, who are onboard to help us advertise joining team CAV again in 2026," she said.
"Studies show that 44 per cent of people do not know where to seek help for family violence, and we want to change that.
"These shirts start conversations that can save lives, strengthen communities, and promote healthy relationships.
"Team CAV isn't just about running - it's about belonging.
"People of all abilities, ages, and fitness levels are welcome.
"Whether you walk, jog, or cheer from the side lines, you are part of our team."
Team CAV: Moving Against Violence invites community members to join their 2026 community team.
