LOCAL CFA members attended a bizarre incident on Sunday evening after a man’s five camels lost their footing, falling down a steep embankment dragging the man and his dog down also.

Police officers from Search and Rescue, CFA and SES attended the incident to facilitate a high angle rescue and successfully lifted the group to safety at 7pm. The man, John Elliot, and his animals were uninjured.

CFA District 23 commander Paul Horton said the man was incredibly lucky to have been located after setting off his emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB), a device that assists authorities to locate those in distress.
