FOREST Fire Management Victoria (FFMVic) crews and authorised officers from the Conservation Regulator (CR) located 36 unattended campfires across the North East during the Easter weekend.

During patrols, CR officers issued 20 infringement notices for a number of offences, including leaving campfires unattended, driving off-road, littering and contaminating waterways.

"The campfires were found at a number of locations including near Germantown, Smoko, Buckland Valley, Barmah, Shepparton and in the Lower Goulburn National Park," FFMVic Hume deputy chief fire officer, Aaron Kennedy, said.

"Luckily none of them had spread.

"FFMVic crews also responded to a small grass fire in the Lower Goulburn National Park.”
