When reports broke earlier this week of the possibility of the Aurora Australis (Sothern Lights) being visible from Victoria, it's no wonder locals were prepared to witness this natural wonder for themselves.
Some were able to capture this luminous display of blue, green, purple, and pink hues in person when it appeared in the sky on Wednesday night.
Aurora Australis - also known as the Southern Lights - is an atmospheric phenomenon seen in the southern hemisphere.
The remarkable array of pulsating neon lights this phenomenon is best known for is the manifestation of, in basic terms, the interaction of energy between solar particles and magnetic fields from the sun (known as solar wind) and the upper atmosphere.
