It was a historic celebration of local golf at the Wangaratta Golf Club on Friday night as a joyous crowd of all ages helped commemorate the club’s 120-year anniversary.

The special milestone, marked on the very day 120 years ago when the club was formed, had something for everyone.

A dozen eager young golfers tested their talents on the practice greens for a putting competition.

And while resting on the sidelines, kids also had the chance to take part in face painting.

The action then moved to the nearest to pin event, with an impromptu hole setup at the clubhouse shooting towards the fairway of the 18th hole.

Prizes were awarded for the kids putting competition and the par 3 nearest the pin while the club marked its penultimate happy hour and members' draw of the summer season.

Food was supplied by Eldorado Pizza and the Hapag De Keluka food truck.

The Wangaratta Golf Club was officially formed at a meeting held at Donovan’s Royal Victoria Hotel on 10 April 1906.

It moved to its current Waldara site in 1963 and into its new clubhouse in 2022.

Its current membership of more than 550 members is the largest membership ever seen at the club.
